Around the world, in every town, every
neighborhood, you will find a local restaurant, serving the community great food at honest prices. For over 30 years, 3 Steeple Street Bistro & Bar has been Providences' gathering place. Call it a pub, grille, cantina, tavern, brasserie, trattoria, cafe... We call it 3 Steeple Street Bistro 3 Steeple Street Bistro & Bar is located in the oldest existing industrial building in Providence, the second oldest in the United States to Slater Mill in Pawtucket. Built in 1792 by Joseph Congdon, the building housed one of the first iron & steel foundries in the United States. The foundry was originally built to supply blacksmiths, however, with the onset of the Civil War it was then expanded into production of firearms, tools, horseshoes, maritime and farming implements, eventually expanding into retail; selling hardware, horse supplies, and coach equipment. After the Civil War, the company had outgrown the space and moved one block north to the corner of Canal and Elizabeth Streets, and would stay in the family for next 6 generations. 3 Steeple Street is not owned by a large coropration or conglomerate, it is owned by a family. They scraped, painted and scrubbed, then applied their philosphy of comfortable elegance to everything from the decor to the menu and the staff |
